What is long runner?

A long runner refers to a type of intake manifold design used in internal combustion engines to increase the amount of air and fuel flow to the engine's combustion chamber. It is characterized by having longer, narrow and straight runners, as opposed to a shorter and wider manifold with short and curved runners.

Long runner intakes produce a strong and consistent power output in the lower to midrange RPMs, making them ideal for street or track use. They provide higher torque, better throttle response, and improved acceleration. However, they tend to compromise high-end power due to the slower airflow rate at high RPMs.

Long runner intakes are commonly used in engines with low displacement and high RPM, such as sports cars, muscle cars, and race cars. They are also popular in some off-road or towing applications where low-end power is more important than high-speed performance.
